Tractor Driving 

Duration:          2 days Training including non-independent City & Guilds NPTC Assessment

Attendees:        max. 3 per course

Venue:              This is normally completed on your site using your machinery.         

Pre-requisites:  None required - must be 16 years of age minimum.

Qualification:    City & Guilds NPTC

Course Objectives:

  • Comply with legal requirements with an emphasis on safe practice
  • Perform a risk assessment
  • Inspect the work area for Health and Safety and Environmental concerns
  • Select the appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Mount and dismount safely
  • Understand the purpose and meaning of the instrumentation
  • Understand the function of all controls
  • Understand the hazards associated with some controls
  • Carry out pre-start and daily checks and maintenance as indicated in the manufacturer’s
    instruction manual
  • Competently perform checking of the lubrication, cooling system and air intake of the engine
  • Perform basic lubrication of the tractor and ensure the tractor is in a
    safe road going state
  • Safely start, stop and check all mechanisms for the tractor 
  • Put in place any signs or warnings to achieve a safe working
    environment (if required)
  • Competently drive a tractor in forwards and reverse
  • Leave the tractor in a safe state
  • Safely hitch a mounted implement and manoeuvre in a forward and reverse direction with a
    mounted implement
  • Safely hitch a trailed implement and manoeuvre in a forward and reverse direction with a trailed
  • Leave unattached implements in a safe state
  • Correctly attach a power take off shaft between tractor and implement
  • Attach the power take off shaft guards correctly
  • Assess the minimum turning circle of the machine and the angle of the power take off shaft
  • Carry out basic operations using a trailer
  • Carry out basic operations using a tractor mounted loader.
  • Understand and know how to use the Manufacturer's Operators' Manual (MOM)
  • Understand the added dangers of operating on the highway and in public areas
  • Carry out after-use checks and maintenance.
